Our Story

In 2015 Portsmouth Believers Church was launched with healing meetings at the Portsmouth Courtyard by Marriott on April 10 and 11.  A group of enthusiastic, pioneering believers  returned week after week and a growing congregation developed.

After several months, Portsmouth Believers Church held services at the Greenleaf Recreation Center and then later at Operation Blessing on Lafayette Road. From 2016 to 2019, they were meeting in a business condominium in Greenleaf Woods, but the vision for spiritual harvest was bigger than that space so they stepped up again. Today you can find the faith-filled believers meeting on Heritage Ave, next door to the Portsmouth Post Office.

 

Portsmouth is the Vision:

Portsmouth is not just our location, it is our assignment from God! We are focused on bringing the message of the gospel to the precious people of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Portsmouth Believers Church brings effective and well trained evangelistic teams into Portsmouth annually for street ministry. Hundreds have prayed the salvation prayer on the streets of Portsmouth!

 

In 2022 Portsmouth Believers Church mailed the gospel message to every residence in Portsmouth. Have you heard of a small local church doing such a huge task? Over 10,000 pieces of gospel-carrying mail was sent! The believers continued to take ground by mailing the salvation message to 12 nearby towns in 2023, ever expanding the gospel of Jesus Christ in thier territory. 

 

Our Pastors' History:

Pastors Ed and Margaret Carnahan served at Word of Life Christian Fellowship in Concord, New Hampshire, from 1992 to 2016 as children's ministers, ministerial staff, and associate pastor. They are graduates of Victory Bible Training Center, in North Reading, MA, and ordained with Rhema Ministerial Association International in Broken Arrow, OK.  

 

The Carnahans have enjoyed 39 years of marriage and have two grown children and three cute-as-pie grandchildren. They enjoy cruising around the state, yard-sailing, and walking New Hampshire's beautiful beaches, towns and countryside.

Our Service Style:

Portsmouth Believers Church includes both the authoritative preaching of God's Word and the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit in every service.  Children receive age appropriate ministry in their fun classrooms during the sermon on most Sundays. Our inspired worship includes songs from contemporary Christian worship groups.  We have prayer for the sick and for salvation at each service. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence by praying in tongues is available to all believers who ask and receive. We have Holy Spirit-directed prayer meetings as we pray for Portsmouth and God’s strategy to reach the population.

Our Affiliation:
PBC is a nondenominational Christian church. Pastors are licensed by Rhema Ministerial Association International (RMAI) and are active members with that anointed organization. Pastors carry the Rhema mandate to "go and teach My people faith" and preach the Word of God simply but powerfully. You will learn the authority of the believer, who you are in Christ, God's provision for you, your purpose, and how to live a victorious life.
